But one set of parents turned the tradition on its head when they let their son opt out of wearing a button up and slacks in favor of a hot dog costume.

Craig Arsenault and his wife Kari dared their son Jake to dress like a hot dog for his school picutre at Biddleford Intermediate School in Maine. The school agreed and needless to say, the photo turned out amazing.

“My wife and I dared our son to wear a hotdog costume for school pictures,” Craig wrote on Facebook. “The school let him do it, and I couldn’t be happier.”

Unsurprisingly, the photo quickly went viral on Facebook, as it has been shared over 31,000 times in less than a week, with over 4,000 users commenting to express how much they enjoyed seeing the photo. Kari even shared that the photo ended up getting covered by the local news and showed a video of Jake looking extremely excited that his costume landed him on TV.

Could this launch a new tradition where kids get to wear ridiculous costumes for school photos instead of nice clothes? We certainly hope so, as it would be a lot more fun for everyone, especially the kids.
