Let's get started on how to do calligraphy on envelopes!
I love sending and receiving Christmas cards.
I used to send them every year--but that's faded off as I simplify my season.
I do love addressing envelopes though--which fictional Christmas movie character would you send a card to?
Let's start by talking about these envelopes
These are Stardream paper envelopes from Cardstock Warehouse. They are divine!
Cardstock Warehouse sent me these envelopes to experience myself. They are the only envelopes I would buy now!
They come in 20 colors of shimmery pearlescent magic.
They are smooth and easy to write on with a calligraphy oblique pen and ink!
Supplies Needed for Calligraphy on Envelopes:
- Envelopes (I'm using Cardstock Warehouse Stardream in Lagoon and Antique Gold)
- Brilliant Ink (in silver and gold)
- Dr Ph Martin's Iridescent Ink (Jade and Pewter)
- Brause EF Nib
- Calligraphy Oblique Holder (both pictured made by ErikanXpressions)
- Scratch Paper and Pencil
- Ruler or guide (optional)
Step 1: Scratch Paper
Begin by scratching out the layout plan on paper.
Draw a rectangle box and then write out the letters and shapes to see how they will fit best on the envelope.
I used my ipad and procreate to sketch mine out very quickly.
**Notice**
I do not use a ruler or guides.
I just "wing it"
If this is not your style...lightly pencil some guide lines on your envelope.
I also use an EF (extra fine) Nib, so the ink needs to be refilled very often...nearly every letter. However I love the drama and contrast when using this nib!
Step 2: Pen and Ink
Dip the pen nib tip into the ink or use a dropper to fill the back of the nib with ink.
Use a scratch paper to make sure the ink is flowing smoothly before writing on the envelope.
Step 3: Calligraphy time!
Now, say a quick prayer or send energy into the cosmos and start writing!
If you are addressing a bunch of envelopes (for a wedding or Christmas cards) make sure you have a few extra on hand, in case of mistakes--plus it will help keep the pressure down.

Have fun with variety!
Have some fun with your card addressing:
Write the full name on one line
Write the first name and the last name under it
Write a title "Mr. or Mrs." with the last name
Draw a banner for words like "and, or, etc"
Repeat the same process for making handmade calligraphy cards.
Get matching Stardream paper from Cardstock Warehouse and cut each piece in half so it measures 8.5x5.5.
Score and fold them in half.
Which holiday card would you send to each holiday character?
I like the Holly Jolly one for Mr. Grinch because in the Jim Carrey movie he asks Max if he's having a "holly jolly Christmas".
I think Peace on Earth would go to Kevin McCallister...because that family life needs some peace.
I think Buddy the Elf would get the classic Merry Christmas.
and Ralphie Parker would get the Joy to the World.
What do you think?
That's it!
Now make all the Christmas cards, wedding invitations and get all those envelopes addressed with gorgeous calligraphy!
