The Slat placement says it all
What the slats are for horizontal blinds, the vanes are the same for vertical blinds. Vertical blinds have the vanes or slats placed upright within the frame to stand against one another when in the closed position. When you open the blinds, wholly or partly, the vanes move apart to create the recess through which light can pass.
In horizontal blinds, the slats run laterally and parallel to one another so that these can form a stack when you close the blinds completely. Opening the blinds will create gaps between the slats to allow natural light to enter the room.
Consider the window size
Vertical blinds – Tall windows need vertical blinds as these seem most suited for the height. Fewer vanes would be required to cover the window from top to bottom, and it means that the chances of wear and tear would be less. Whenever the window height is considerably greater than the width, it is perfect for covering it with vertical blinds. It will ensure that the blinds are lightweight and easy to operate manually while ensuring faster opening and closing of the blinds.
The long slats of vertical blinds create an illusion of spaciousness and are ideal for allowing more light entry. Besides the window height, consider the amount of light that you want to pass through the blinds to decide about the suitability of using vertical blinds. Wide windows, Bay windows, and patio doors are ideal for using vertical blinds.
Horizontal blinds – Horizontal blinds are the more commonly used blinds that suit the average window sizes, which are primarily rectangular. The window type is also a factor for choosing between horizontal and vertical blinds. Both horizontal and vertical blinds are cord-operated for manual operations.
Both types of blinds need regular cleaning and periodical maintenance to retain their looks and ensure smooth operation that enables fine adjustment of the angles of the slats for better light control and energy efficiency.
